Loved Beyond Measure

Dewey

An ARL officer brought Dewey to us, and he was quickly taken to our Miracle Medical ward.

When an ARL Animal Services officer carried Dewey into the Animal Rescue League, all we could see was pain in his eyes. The sweet 20-week-old puppy had just been hit by a car and couldn't walk.

The ARL officer rushed Dewey back to our Miracle Medical Ward, where our team started him on pain medications and took X-rays. His hind leg was broken, and it was severe—a complete break with pieces of bone that had splintered off and were pushing into his muscle.

He needed surgery right away. We didn't know if we would be able to save his leg, but we knew he needed a chance.

Your support changed his life.

Dewey after surgery

After his surgery, Dewey enjoyed resting in his kennel with his head in the lap of our volunteers and staff.

We're happy to report that we were able to get Dewey into surgery quickly and despite his complicated break, his surgery went very well. He had to have a pin, a plate, nine screws and wire put in to repair his leg and ensure it would stay as stable as possible as it heals.

After his surgery, Dewey was placed on strict kennel rest to ensure his leg healed properly. He was monitored closely by our medical team and was, of course, given lots of love and snuggles as the weeks went by. He especially loved lying on a big comforter in his kennel with his head in our laps.

Dewey with his furever family

Dewey was able to finish recovering in the comfort of his new home with his furever family.

As he was healing, a wonderful family reached out to us and said they were interested in adopting him! Dewey was at a point in his recovery where he could continue to recover in a home environment, so we arranged a time for the family to meet him. They loved him immediately, understood his medical needs and were committed to helping him finish his recovery at home with them.

It was a perfect match.

Thanks to you, Dewey is now at home with his new family and continuing to heal well. He is loved beyond measure…just like he always deserved to be.
