Finding Healing and a Home

Junie

When an ARL Animal Services Officer responded to a call about a puppy in distress, she came upon a dire situation—the young puppy’s collar was deeply embedded in her neck.

The person responsible for Junie had never adjusted her collar as she grew, leaving it to dig in deeper and deeper, causing severe infection and unimaginable pain.

The situation was critical, and our ACO rushed the puppy to our Emergency Care Team. Within minutes of her arrival, she was in our Miracle Medical Ward and under anesthesia. We cut her collar off, and the wound at her throat was horrific: 1.5 inches deep and less than a half inch away from her jugular.

If she hadn’t been rescued, she most certainly would have died.

Our Emergency Care Team stayed late to clean and disinfect the wound. We gave her pain medications and antibiotics and wrapped the wound so her body could start its healing process. As the days went by, our veterinarians closely monitored her comfort level and healing in the extremely delicate area, and once her severe swelling had gone down they took her into surgery to fully close her wound.

Junie after being adopted

After weeks in our care, Junie is now fully healed … and, even better, she has a new home! An ARL staff member who was working with her couldn’t help but fall in love with her sweet and goofy personality. Now Junie has a new home with a cat sister, plenty of toys and all the love and care she has always deserved!

Junie’s rescue, surgery and healing would not have been possible without your support. YOU make stories like this possible every day and your support allows us to always be ready to help the next pet who comes to us with nowhere else to turn.
